ID No : | 481 Edit | Title: | The Production of Photovoltaic Devices in Space |
Summary / Review : | The author's abstract: "Solar power satellite needs for the deployment of an extensive amount o fsolar cells on orbit, has driven the pursuit of an alternate technology for the fabrication of solar cells on orbit instead of transportation of solar cells from earth to space. Preliminary proof-of-concept experiments on the [space-based experimental] Wake Shield Facility have shown the ability to grow high quality crystalline thin film materials in the vacuum of space. Such direct growth and processing of thin film solar cells in the vacuum of space can lead to significant reductions in launched-up mass and consequent major reductions in cost for solar cell deployment on a solar power satellite." - MP |
